A Plague of Cholera & Other Stories features stories of ghosts, romantic expectations, aging, and the legacies we leave behind, from one of the twentieth century’s most esteemed Yiddish writers, Jonah Rosenfeld, and translated by Rachel Mines.

Rachel Mines, the daughter of Holocaust survivors, was born and raised in Vancouver. As a child, she attended classes at the Peretz School (now the Peretz Centre for Secular Jewish Culture) and served on Peretz’s Board of Directors from 2015-2016. Rachel began translating Yiddish literature in 2013. Rachel’s two collections of translated stories, The Rivals and Other Stories by Jonah Rosenfeld and A Plague of Cholera and Other Stories by Jonah Rosenfeld, were published by Syracuse University press in 2020 and 2024 respectively.
