Instructor Yasmine Halevi

Yasmine Halevi, a native Hebrew speaker, studied Linguistics at the Hebrew University, and Cultural Studies at Tel Aviv University. She teaches contemporary Hebrew to people who want to speak it as a means of practical communication.

“My approach is grammatical because I believe grammar is the fastest way to learn and identify patterns. During the lessons we read, write, listen, speak and laugh. It can be hard work initially but it soon gets very rewarding as you start to speak, understand more, and see the results!”

“Although I was born in a Hebrew-speaking home, I lost my language due to assimilation. Now I would like to become a fluent Hebrew speaker, as well as learn to read and write.”

“I am comfortable with Biblical Hebrew but am interested in taking Modern Hebrew at the JCC so I can have conversations in Hebrew.”
