Former JCC President, Sol Casseres, is finally a JCC Hockey League Champion!
Through a 24-year “J-League” career, Casseres had somehow never managed to win a championship, despite being the league’s second all-time scoring leader in that span, behind aging star, Mark David.
But that all changed, May 7, when Casseres, David, and the rest of the Blue Bulldogs defeated the Orange Cheddar to win the 2025/26 J-League championship.
Casseres, who scored a goal in the high-scoring game 3, was also playing in his first J-League finals.
The best-of-three series was a definitive back-and-forth affair with the Cheddar taking Game 1 and the Bulldogs owning Game 2. Game 3 was played like a series within a series as the Bulldogs saw leads of 1-0, 3-1, 6-4, and 7-6 disappear as a determined Cheddar team kept climbing back, even taking a 4-3 lead of their own into the third period.
However, after Cheddar’s Daniel Glasner scored on a masterful deflection to tie that game 7-7 with 13.2 seconds remaining in regulation time, the Bulldogs killed off two penalties in overtime to push the game to a shootout. The Dogs outscored the Cheddar 3-1 in the shootout to seal the first Blue championship since 2015, thus ending the 24-year curse of Sol Casseres.
