Exhibit Highlights Video – narrated by David Seymour CHIM‘s nephew Ben Shneiderman
In collaboration with the Festival of Jewish Culture and JCC’s celebration of Jewish Heritage Month.
This compelling exhibition showcases the work of a founder of Magnum Photo, legendary David Seymour – “Chim.” Chim’s 51 photos capture the raw emotions and pivotal moments from war-torn landscapes to stories of resilience and hope. This exhibition highlights his exceptional storytelling talent while offering a poignant reflection on the human condition by one of the 20th century’s most influential photojournalists.
This exhibit was initiated by Cynthia Young, curator at New York’s International Center of Photography, using vintage prints in their collection. Then the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center produced the 51 modern prints for their showing, which were later presented at the Portland Oregon Jewish Museum and Holocaust Education Center. davidseymour.com

Rosin and Morales Garza use nature—especially flora and fruit—as a symbolic lens to explore social realities. Rosin draws from community garden life to reflect on growth and food scarcity, while Morales Garza reclaims similar imagery to critique gender roles and cultural stereotypes. Their lush, detailed works blur beauty and critique, revealing nature as a powerful site of meaning, identity, and resistance.

Myth & Stillness unites Suzy Birstein’s vivid figurative sculptures with June Yun’s serene paintings, showcasing two artistic responses to inner landscapes shaped by memory and change. Birstein reimagines iconic women artists like Frida Kahlo and Leonora Carrington as mythic figures in clay, adorned with symbolic details that celebrate feminine creativity and resilience. In contrast, Yun’s quiet, minimalist paintings use motifs like water and blossoms to evoke calm and clarity.
The works explore how women navigate the world as powerful paths to freedom, whether through myth-making or stillness.

String Theory brings together two artists exploring connection, transition, and the unseen forces that shape our world. Judge’s drawings map emotional and physical landscapes between Canada and New Zealand, while Goldstein’s mixed-media works interpret the invisible vibrations of quantum string theory.
They invite reflection on how place, memory, and matter intertwine, linking the personal with the universal.
