Musical Theatre

A fun class of singing, dancing and acting! Students work on popular songs from Broadway and film musicals, vocal technique and theatrical dance elements

Tuition & Fees

Tuition
Most courses are full year, September 2022 – June 2023.
Rehearsal and show are part of the number of classes.
60 minutes class M: $549 R: $675
75 minutes class M: $650 R: $799
90 minutes class M: $785 R: $965

COSTUME FEES
Students in Full-year and Session B classes.
Regular class: $80
Advanced Jazz : $130 (2-3 costumes)
Company: $170 (3-4 costumes)

PERFORMANCE and VIDEO FEES
$49 (incl. 2 tickets and a digital download of the Year-End Shows / family) – will be processed in March 2023.
Dance Competition fee for Advanced Jazz – $45

PAYMENTS 
Fees are payable in full at the time of registration, or payment plans must be in place. Spaces will not be held without a deposit.
Full year session payments may be divided in 3-6 installments, through credit or debit card payment plan. GST will be added where applicable.

SCHOLARSHIPS
We are grateful to the Yosef Wosk Family Foundation for the Lyn Fox Jazz Dance and Music Award. Please apply in confidentiality with School Director.

THINGS TO KNOW

YEAR-END PERFORMANCES
Full-year and session B students will perform in year-end show.
YEAR-END SHOW TICKETS
2 COMPLIMENTARY YEAR-END SHOW TICKETS PER FAMILY are included in the course fee. Additional tickets will be sold one month before the shows.

SCHOOL POLICIES
COMMITMENT
Most of our courses require a full-year commitment, as the program is progressive.
ATTENDANCE
With exceptions for medical reasons, students who miss more than 2 classes in session A or B, or more than 4 classes in full-year session will be withdrawn from the course. No refund will be issued.
BEHAVIOUR CONSIDERATIONS
Students are expected to treat their peers with respect, to be on time and to wear appropriate clothing. Disruptive behaviour will result in dismissal without refund.
WITHDRAWALS AND CANCELLATIONS
Withdrawal for a refund: up to 4 business days before the program starts. 10% administrative charge will apply (min. $10).
Withdrawal from a course within 3 business days of start but no later than the second class: a 20% administrative fee (min. $20) will apply. A credit to the JCC will be offered, but NO REFUNDS.
No refunds, credits, or make-up classes after the second class or for missed sessions, except for full withdrawal with medical note. $12 charge will apply. Transfers are subject to space availability and instructor’s approval. $10 charge will apply.
Lessons cancelled by the instructor will be made up.

DANA CAMIL HEWITT
School Director 

Dana is an arts administrator and musicologist with extensive international experience in arts management and education. Before becoming Director of the Dena Wosk School of Performing Arts in 1999, she worked for the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and the Tel-Aviv University. She is also a freelance writer, specializing in arts and culture.

JANA BERENGEL
Jazz

Jana has enjoyed a career in film, TV and stage. She has danced alongside Michael Buble, Carmen Electra and taught Amanda Seyfried her dance moves for the feature film “Red Riding Hood”. She has danced in TV commercials for Microsoft, Telus Mobility, Energizer as well as on TV shows “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies”,  “Psych” and MOW, “The Good Bye Girl”.  Jana has also performed for Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and Tokyo Disneyland. She has toured with the Canadian Concert Military Show Tour throughout Canada, Israel, Dubai, Egypt and Afghanistan. Jana loves teaching and looks forward to another great year.

ERICA McFARLANE SNODGRASS
Jazz, Hip Hop

(ON MATERNITY LEAVE)

Erica is a sought-after dancer and instructor. She started her training at age 3, and went on to direct the University of Victoria Dance Company. While completing her B.A. in Human and Social Development, she founded The Industry Dance Co and created ‘Therapy In Motion’, a dance program for people with special needs. Highlights of her dance career include: BC Lions’ ‘Felions’ dance team, The Canadian Video Game Awards, SVS Style Dance Crew, featured choreographer for BC Children’s Hospital ‘For Children We Care’.

MASHA SHCHERBYNA
Ballet

Masha started her ballet training at Goh Ballet in Vancouver and then attended Canada’s National Ballet School in Toronto. After performing in festivals in Netherlands and Germany, she attended the San
Francisco Ballet School. She is currently studying Kinesiology at UBC and teaching in local studios and community centres. Masha is excited to pass on her knowledge and see the love of dance develop in the young ballerinas!

Karina-Collins

KARINA COLLINS
Ballet

Karina is a professional ballet dancer with a background in gymnastics. She has danced throughout BC, the US and Europe with Goh Ballet, Coastal City Ballet, Oklahoma City Ballet, Twin Cities Ballet of Minnesota and Koblenz Ballet. She loves teaching children because they are the most creative and she is excited to pass on her knowledge of ballet and performing to the upcoming generation.

SHAE BOURNE
Contemporary

Growing up in Vancouver BC, Shae attended the Richmond Academy of Dance and furthered her training at Millennium Dance Complex in Los Angeles, as well as with the Source Dance Company and KTL based out of Harbour Dance Centre in Vancouver.  Shae has had the privilege of dancing in many TV shows and has been a part of many live theatre shows throughout BC. Over the years, Shae has developed a wealth of knowledge from working in this industry and is excited to share it!

CHAN SMOOK
Hip Hop

Chan Smook has been a lover of dance since they started at the age of 5. Growing up in Alberta, Chan trained in every discipline offered at their studio  and  won a variety of scholarships in NYC and Vancouver, where they trained with several intensive companies. Chan has also had the opportunity to work within the TV and film industry and on music videos. Chan is a teacher of infectious energy and passion in sharing their love for dance with students. They are beyond excited to be joining the DWSPA faculty!

HADAS KLINGER
Jazz, Israeli Dance

Moving to Vancouver as a young girl, Hadas continued her passion for dance here at the Dena Wosk School of Performing Arts. She has studied a variety of dance styles including jazz, ballet, contemporary, lyrical, and modern, as well as teaching a selection of dance classes in Massachusetts. Hadas is studying psychology in UBC and entering their elementary teacher program this fall. She is excited to share the joy of dance with her students!

SHIR BARZEL
Musical Theatre

Shir has been singing ever since she can remember. She sang in her school music program, as well as the IDF air force band performing across Israel. Shir has been a vocal coach with experience in numerous singing styles: musical theatre, pop, and rock.  In addition, Shir was trained in the LEV voice method, which allows her to teach singing in a unique and fun way and focus on developing foundations that are personalized for each student. Shir believes in creating a safe environment in which students feel free to express themselves and explore their voice and creative passions.

RAHEL
Bellydance

​​Rahel is a Movement Arts teacher, mentor and performer, specializing in Raqs Sharqi (Bellydance) in which she has over 20 years experience, as well as fitness and yoga. Rahel believes in empowerment, embodiment and self acceptance through mindful movement, and aims to create class settings that are safe, inclusive, healing and fun!
