OLGA CAMPBELL / Dear Arlo: Letters to My Grandson
Read the article in the Jewish Independent
Olga Campbell is a second generation Holocaust survivor. Her mother’s entire family was killed during the war and although her mother survived, that trauma stayed with her and had a profound impact on Olga.
Dear Arlo: Letters To My Grandson is her response to these circumstances, through art, poetry, prose – even family recipes, an exploration of how trauma shapes one’s identity. The book however also celebrates the power of writing and art as a transformational and healing tool and looks at the wonder and magic of life, because at its heart are letters to Campbell’s grandson, Arlo.
OLGA CAMPBELL is a Vancouver visual artist whose art includes photography, sculpture, mixed media painting and digital photo collage. She has written two books, Graffiti Alphabet and A Whisper Across Time, which won the Holocaust Prize in the 2020 WCJB Awards.
